I am now on the 7th floor. Worse view, better kitchen, slightly smaller desk, probably more noise (though it's quiet at the moment). Still not a proper office, though it is better than a cubicle. And I still have a whiteboard, though I had to spend some time turning it from a greyboard back into a whiteboard.

Now I have to train myself to press "7" instead of "8" in the lift.

(sigh) I don't even have a cubicle - they ran out of dividers, and anyway we spend so much time talking to each other...

On the other hand - although it's only the second floor - the campus is out of town, so the view's quite nice.

Could you get an electric fan? Or preferably get them to get you an electric fan, or will they say air conditioning means you don't need one?

It's not so much that the fan will lower the temperature as it is that the moving air will make you feel cooler. I find it much easier to control the comfort level here with fans than with the AC.

Yes, that's it. I have an electric fan that rotates gently on its base, and it's the simulated breeze that brings me relief. Like using a real, wood-and-paper fan; people keep telling me that the energy I expend in fanning myself will raise my temperature, but I don't mind that as long as I feel a faint breeze on my face.

No harm grabbing the air-blown thingy if it's going spare, just to see if it helps.

Ah, real paper fans! I have happy childhood memories of summer Sunday evening services, with all the mothers fanning away like crazy. The ones who didn't keep fans in their purses for the purpose used the paper programs leftover from the morning service. Somehow, watching all the fanning made the services go by faster. :)
