Darn. After managing to avoid it all winter, it's springtime and I've got a cold. Fortunately I still have one nostril to breathe through, or I wouldn't be getting any sleep tonight at all. But my throat is sore. Good thing I've been stocking up on sugarless Fisherman's Friends, they're the best. Though right now I'm experimenting with a Strawberry Sugar Free Strepsils. Why am I being all sugar-free? Not, as you might expect, because I'm worried about my teeth or my diet (they are secondary considerations). It's because, with sugar-full lozenges, one's mouth starts feeling like the bottom of a birdcage, an experience I had with a particularly bad flu once which I never want to repeat.

I'm still going to see my sleep specialist tomorrow, but after that, it's bed. Or, more probably, the comfy chair in the lounge with rugs.

Word of warning, it might not happen to you but the sweetener that is used in sugar free items acts as a reasonably strong laxative for me. Commiserations on the cold and the sleep problems. I get the occasional sleepless night and that wipes me out for days afterward. More than the occasional and I would be suicidal in very short order.

You should take time off work and give yourself a chance to get better (I learned that one the hard way). Read some books, watch DVDs, listen to music, and take it easy. Look after yourself!

You just recced 'Through the Gate'! Thank you! I wish I'd thought up a better title for that.

Right, I'm off to bed; it's almost midnight.

::hugs:: Do you have menthol-scented petroleum jelly there? It comes under the brand names 'Vicks' and 'Mentholatum' here. If you smear just a touch above your upper lip it does a good job of opening up the nostrils, and I've used it under my mask many times without ill effect.

Anyway, I hope you'll feel better soon.

Ugh. The thing I hate most about colds is the blocked-up-ness, which can go on for days after the cold itself has finished (particularly as my "colds" tend to be allergy-based not virus-based, and clear up within 24 hours). I've never really found anything that works very well; extra strong menthol sweets clear my passages as long as I'm sucking them, but only as long as I'm stucking them, and I dislike the taste. Hope you clear up one way or another.
