Here’s a tutorial on how to make the Chained Chain Join for joining pieces in crochet. It creates a beautiful textured braid between the two pieces that are joined.

Clever! Did you see something like it somewhere or make it up? I really couldn't predict what you were going to do with all those chains!

I saw something similar used for decoration rather than joining; crocheting gaps or loops as one went in order to create a faux cable/braid design. I tried a few different ways of turning it into a join, such as making long strips of single crochet, and I found that making pairs of chains was the easiest. So I suppose that, yeah, I invented this join!
