This, Too, Shall Pass

This morning I ventured out into the Outside to get a Flu shot from my doctor, and bought some delicious take-away Special Fried Rice for lunch on the way back. It was nice to get out into the lovely sunshine.

However, now, hours later, working on the computer, I started wondering why I'd overdone things with my left arm, when it's usually my right shoulder (the mouse hand) which complains... and then I realised: flu shot. Which was in my left arm. Which is now aching, and my shoulder muscles feel so stiff and hard it makes me think of lockjaw. And speaking of jaws, the left side of my jaw and neck are aching too. Ugh. A not-unusual side-effect of a flu shot. Alas, I think I will not be sleeping well tonight.

Aspirin/ibuprofen/whatever? Actually, some people like me who do antibody infusions, frequently have to pre-med with allergy medications. I wonder if that would help people who react to flu shots.

My flu shots haven't troubled me too much since a friend who was a nurse told me to relax my arm. I shake it out and let it hang as loosely as possible. Usually all I have is a painful-bruise feeling if I lie on it in bed and some years I'm getting a mild cold. This year though I had no reactions at all which worries me a bit - did it even work?

I don't think it's the bruising aspect of it, though, not for me this time. My immune system is all stirred up.

All I can think is that people react differently to different strains. Greg has a sore arm.

The side effects suck. Totally. But if that's the price I pay for being protected, jab me! (I got mine a month ago and yes, horrid vaccine hangover)

Yeah, I remember your moans about this, which is why I specifically asked my GP about possible side effects. At least I don't appear to have a fever. Just aches.

Sympathies. Our whole household family got them yesterday as well. Youngest was reporting sore arm affection attempts at sleep, I'm just blah and more than usual allergy symptoms. Also fatigue.
