1. "The Pattern of Infinity" by Ana Dorfstad. The first B7 fic I read, and the reason why I have always held fan fiction up to a high standard.
2. "All The King's Horses/The Gate Beyond Winter" by Marie Logan; this is a lovely, lovely blending of the fantastical and the SF.
3. "Morgan" by Judith Proctor. Just because.

(I thought of this on the bus into town, and then spent some time trying to decide if "He saith among the trumpets 'Ha ha!'" would make mine, and decided not, because it's like "He slew a lion in a pit on a snowy day", you know, the sort of thing people remember only because it's funny. It is a lovely line, though.)

Well, actually the reason is because it isn't "the white of an egg", but all the translators do it as "the white of an egg" because they don't know what "the slime of the purslain" is. It's the only occurrance of the word in the Bible, y'see, and they don't know what it's referring to. Which is why I like the verse. 8-P

Heh, if you'd asked me for top five lines from Blake's 7 or even Doctor Who I probably could have obliged, but Stargate SG-1, while I like it muchly, is not deeply enough embedded in my skull for me to be able to remember any particular lines, let alone five...

Though I must say, that bit in "1969" where Jack is being interrogated was fun, though I can't remember the exact lines.

Of course you know I spent a few hours a couple of days ago making a list of a whole bunch of children's books I still owned, for drednort? Though that was a lot more than five...

Okay... let's go for influential...

1. The Silver Chair (because I decided that Puddleglum had a very good practice, to look on the bright side when one was in gloomy situations, that no matter how gloomy, there is probably a bright side somewhere)
2. The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant (because I decided that Thomas Covenant was a ruddy idiot, and just because you think you're insane or in an impossible situation, is still absolutely no excuse for behaving immorally.)
3. The Clan of the Cave Bear (because of all the lovingly detailed descriptions of catching and preparing all these strange foods, I decided I wouldn't be so fanatically fussy as I had been; try something once before you decide you hate it)
4. The Lord of the Rings (because it showed me about Nobility and Kingship)
5. Winnie The Pooh (because it showed me that poetry is something that even common people (and bears) can write, about everyday things)
