There Are Good Things

Y'know how people have a "family doctor" that the whole family goes to? Well, we do have one of those, but we also have a "family plumber". My shower is dripping. I called him up, said who I was, he said "Sure, might even get it done before lunch, as I'm in the area."
It wasn't until I hung up that it struck me how remarkable that was. I hadn't seen him for a couple of years. But he knew who I was. He knew where I lived. I didn't have to give him my address, he already knew, off the top of his head.
In this age of Big Bureaucracy, consider how rare something like that is. It is lovely.
And while I'm posting, I'd better give y'all a bit of a State of the Kathryn, especially as some of you have expressed concern about the bushfires. I'm just glad I don't live in the Blue Mountains. I'm told that 80% of that area is gone, burned up. That is just mind-boggling. There has never never never been a bushfire season as bad as this one, not as far back as the records go. I don't recall that we've had to ask for help from overseas before; usually if there are bad bushfires in New South Wales, firefighters from Victoria and Queensland can come and help, and visa versa. But it's been burning all over the countryside.
I AM FINE, don't worry. If bushfires got out of the bush into the suburbs of my city... well, something more would have had to have happened than just bushfires. We have had smoke haze, though.
I wish that every single climate-change denier would get dropped into the middle of the devastation and beg on their knees to be forgiven. (seethes)
In other news, I've finished my First 20 Elements series, AND put it up in my shop. Take a look, they are so cool. Good for any science nerd or anyone who loves stained glass.
Next series I'm working on is much shorter, I'm calling it Personifications. Earth, Air, Fire, Water, Chaos, Order, and maybe a few more. Inspired by a piece of clip art of a silhouette of a woman that really made me think of Fire. Love being creative.
Mind you, I try not to think about how the shop is actually going, considering I looked at the "how much money you made in the last year" on my account, and... I need 120 times that in order to make a living... ugh. I try not to think about that. Definitely try not to think about that. And plug away at my Social Media... And give people business cards.
Christmas was lovely, my family are awesome. The theme for Christmas gifts for me this year was "go out and do stuff with people", considering things like gift-cards for movies, for food, for a VR session! Very creative gift-givers. I mean, if my family were to give people socks, they'd be funky socks with designs that absolutely fit the person they were being given to. I have a new appreciation for this since an acquaintance mentioned to me that a relative gave them a "Scotches of the Year" collection. Not that the person was a teatotaller, but he couldn't care less about Scotch. So, yeah, I'm blessed.
I did my hand in working on Christmas presents at the last minute, so this year I'm starting in January instead of leaving it until December. Am working on a knit/crochet shawl. I'm thinking I'll be making a mix of textile projects and Actual Real Canvas Paintings (because neither of those things are things I'm intending to sell).
Aaand... I'm still caught in fannish obsession for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Tony and Loki in particular. Clint Barton (Hawkeye) is growing on me, there have been fan stories which have given him a lot more screen time than canon did. It doesn't hurt that my eldest niece is a big fan of Jeremy Renner.

Date: 2020-01-29 10:35 am (UTC)For some reason, most butchers' shops here in the UK call themselves "Family butchers". That always conjures up a very unfortunate image in my mind! Maybe I've watched too many horror films.
