Just finished listening to audiobook of "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" read by Lloyd James. Have tears in eyes at description of Mike's fate at end. Mycroft is one of my favourite AIs in SF.

It's at least 30 years since I read the book, but I remember that my reaction to the ending was much the same as yours. I think it must have been Robert Heinlein's last novel before he went decidedly weird and seemed to become obsessed with sex (though I believe it was not published until a couple of years after "Stranger in a Strange Land", which I categorise as his first "weird" novel).

Absolutely. I really like that particular book but attempts to read later ones failed due to his pushing of polyamourism and under-age sex. Yuck. OK, there's a bit of poly in that one but it's part of the world moon, but an obsession.

Am unconvinced Mike is gone. Am unwilling to be convinced.

That's one of the few Heinlein books I like, and Mycroft is great.
