This is interesting. Some of these are simply synonyms for things that I'm already interested in, such as "liad", "avon", "rupert giles" and "vorkosigan". Some of these are things I am interested in, but not sufficiently to list as interests, such as Georgette Heyer, Dorothy L. Sayers, David Weber (I happen to be re-reading the Honor Harrington books at the moment!).
I like Robin McKinley most of the time. I like Connie Willis about half the time; likewise with Guy Gavriel Kay. I consider Forever Knight to be my Highlander substitute, but I tend to consider the last season as non-existant.
Interesting that it mentions Dorothy Dunnett, but not that surprising, since, while I've never read any of her stuff, mention on the B7 Lyst intrigued me enough to buy the first Lymond book, but it's been sitting on my "to be read" shelf for years, awaiting the time when I feel in the mood for reading a very thick historical novel about a period about which I know nothing.
"Ultraviolet", of course, goes along with "Forever Knight", but I didn't watch that one.
Diane Duane... well, the blurbs on her stuff haven't made me want to read any of her stuff, even though I'm "supposed" to be interested, cuz, like, I like Harry Potter?
Urban fantasy: well, I like some of it. I love Emma Bull's "War of the Oaks", but the "Elves that drive race cars" series by Mercedes Lackey is as lacklustre and cliche-ridden as everything else she writes.
I've read a couple of books by Tanya Huff, and they weren't bad, but...
I did enjoy Jasper Fforde's "The Eyre Affair", it was fun, but it felt like a one-book joke to me, so I haven't been tempted to read the others in the series.
I think I read a George R.R. Martin novel once.
Steven Brust: I must try to tackle the Taltos omnibus I have again. But I just bought the 4th Honorverse anthology today, so I think I'm going to be reading a bunch of David Weber in the near future.

Date: 2005-06-22 11:38 am (UTC)One of the appealing parts, and why there's the "Georgette Heyer" mention, is that the Liadens are a very sophisticated mannered culture (and consider the Terrans to be boorish uncultivated uncivilized newcomers). The Liadens have a very highly-developed culture of calculated revenge, which makes dealing with them, for outsiders, somewhat perilous. The Terrans and the Liadens aren't the only cultures or species around, but they're the ones mainly featured.
It's very enjoyable Space Opera.

Heh.. Take it as you will =)
But the Vlad Taltos chronicles are well worth the read.
