Website Blues
May. 24th, 2005 03:11 pmWell, I just heard from my web-host. They are never going to offer Apache, not with the package I have. And I have also been informed that it is impossible for Zeus to do what I want to be able to do.
Wah!
Friends, geeks, and countrymen, lend me your ears. Am I insane to consider running my own webserver? I have signed up for 256/64 ADSL with a static IP. I was certainly intending to run my own mailserver, but I wasn't going to go with an external webserver, or if I did, it was just going to be a casual mirror site. But if I move katspace.net over to my own machine, am I going to be swamped? Will 64K on upload be too slow? My web-host is very reliable and has a very fast connection, and only costs me US$25 a year -- my ADSL connection will cost me A$40 a month. My current dialup connection costs me $20 a month, and of course I'm going to save some money on telephone calls, but I'll still be paying more than I am at the moment, but I still think it's worth it, but I'm not blase' about paying even more to get a faster connection.
Ah well, first I should just wait and see how the ADSL goes. I finally got changed over to Telstra on Friday, and I revived the ADSL connection process yesterday, so I should find out in a week or two (5-10 working days).

Date: 2005-05-24 06:50 am (UTC)Really? I had a line devoted to the dialup so people could still call in. Getting rid of it saved another A$26.50

Date: 2005-05-24 07:46 am (UTC)ADSL will be much nicer, though.
