I've finished (the first draft of) my Multi-Fandom Lyric Wheel story (yay!) and I need someone to beta it. It's a Stargate story, so I can't call on the usual victims volunteers. Help, please!
OK, I've got a question about the Lyric Wheel stories... I just finished up mine and sent it off for beta -- *gulp!* -- and in the process I realized that I hadn't actually fulfilled one of the requirements. I don't quite have a line from the song in the story. There are several places that sort of allude to or paraphrase small snatches of the lyrics, but not really a verbatim quote anywhere. Is that within the bounds of acceptability, or do I need to tweak things to work one in?
Well, mine is full of paraphrases and allusions and I had to work hard to make it not full of direct quotes (because it was a very conversational song...) but I did end up tweaking one line so that it was a verbatim quote -- so if I can do it, so can you.
It's all part of the challenge. The main thing I didn't want was stories which quote huge slabs of the lyrics, but I thought the original (Highlander) Lyric Wheel requirement to quote one line of the song added a piquant edge to the whole thing.
The line doesn't actually have to be part of the dialogue, it can be part of the description or whatever.
Oh, I can do it. I just wasn't sure whether the intent was more "you have to have one line from the song" or "you can't have more than one line from the song," if you know what I mean. It'll be pretty artificial, but if it's a requirement of the challenge, I'll manage it somewhere. It might be a pretty short line, though. :)
