Elementary 1x12 M.
Nov. 2nd, 2014 04:50 pmI'm not reporting on every episode, but this one is worth remarking on.
Moriarty! Somehow I was not surprised that "M." was connected to Moriarty. I was surprised that the killer turned out not to be Moriarty, but was being paid by him; though when you think about it, that does make more sense than Moriarty being someone so easily caught, and also fits with the "shadowy underworld figure" of Holmes canon.
Of course Irene Adler would have had to be unique, or Sherlock wouldn't have fallen for her. Mind you, it is somewhat irritating that we have a Dead Girlfriend... but on the other hand, I'm glad that Sherlock's still-burning love for Irene makes it less likely that he would fall for Joan, because the "default setting" seems to be, in TV-land, that "men and women can't be friends", that is, if there is a man and a woman interacting as leads in a show, they "must" be in a romantic relationship. And I so much prefer the friendship dynamic that Joan and Sherlock have.
My first thought when I realized that Joan was lying in order to stay on, was "But what's she going to live on?"
Unfortunately TV-land tends to ignore things like that.
