Stargate-SG1: Birthright
Mar. 29th, 2005 07:28 amBeen working my way through Season 7. Saw "Birthright" last night.
Really really don't like what it does to the Stargate universe, think they were All Wrong. Because my ideal solution is not to have the Jaffa dependent on a drug at all. Personally I thought that the Jaffa and the Tok'ra were a match made in heaven, and I really don't like the direction this pushes things into. Hey,
watervole I want the next story after "Truth and Consequences"!!!!!
(Why do I like the Tok'ra? Because they change the equation from TotallEvil!Unstoppable!Foe to something which has Redemption in it.)
The episode was rather predictable -- you had representative characters for all points of view, who either died heroically or were brought around... and it was written by Christopher Judge, well, so Teal'c got the girl (yawn).
And, am I wrong, but I thought -- before this episode decreed otherwise -- that Jaffa weren't actually dependent on symbiotes unless they'd been given one. That is, yes, it was a tradition that Jaffa children get given their first symbiote at puberty, but there wasn't actually anything which specifically stated that the the alternative was death. Am I wrong, or did not Teal'c try to persuade his son not to take a symbiote, or was upset that he had, way back in an early season?I could be wrong.
And why does everybody have to be warriors? And whenever anybody makes women warriors, they're all dressed completely impractically, without any body-armour. True, it looks very cute, but, y'know, eye-candy does not make for survivability... (sigh) Par for the course, I know.
I think, if I'm going to write Stargate fic, I'm either going to set it early, or make it so AU that it completely ignores everything I don't like, even down to the existance (or not) of Anubis... (pokes out tongue)
Well, that remark *is* relevant, considering that someday I do want to finish my SG/HL crossover (yes,
reveilles, that one) and write a sequel to my Sentinel/Stargate crossover, and maybe even write that Tomorrow People/Stargate crossover that I've written one paragraph for.
Yes, I like crossovers. You should know that by now... 8-P
But, first I have to figure out what to write for my Multi-Fandom Lyric Wheel assignment. Which could include going off and buying a CD.
