Steampunk Hat
May. 26th, 2013 07:10 pmI have committed craft!
And burned one finger with hot glue. Oh well.
The following is a Steampunk Top Hat which I made for my Steampunk costume for Continuum. Which is just as well, it's two weeks away! There are other things I would liked to have made for it, but a top hat, a parasol, a waistcoat and a fob watch are at least minimal things which I do have.
So. The hat.
I can't remember where I got the actual top hat, but I remember it was very cheap for something that didn't look cheap.
The goggles are steampunk goggles I purchased online; I didn't make them myself.
I attached the decorations with hot glue, and I'm embarrassed at how much of the glue shows (it shows even more in the pictures because of the flash). But I didn't want bits falling off either. So there is glue.
The hat is not actually charcoal grey, it's black, it's the flash that makes it look grey. Look, it's hard to take photographs at night! Be glad it was in focus.

Date: 2013-05-26 02:16 pm (UTC)I've just bought myself a very tall top hat, but it won't be adorned with steampunk, as I got it in order to dress up as one of the Ravilious woodcut cricketers.

not necessarily the hot glue injury part
Just a little blister, now. Problem with hot glue and cogs is that the hot glue seeps through the gaps when one is pressing them onto the surface one is gluing them to. As I went on I tried to put on less and less hot glue to avoid this, but I still needed to put on enough so that it would stick...
