Expressions of Interest
Jan. 31st, 2005 09:29 pmIn a comment in this post, I expressed an interest in organizing a Lyric ficathon, one that wouldn't clash with a bunch of other ficathons. This means that I wouldn't even start thinking about it until late March or early April, because the
remixredux is due March 15 (and apparently the original lyric ficathon is due March 18th), but I'd like to get some expressions of interest so I can sort of book a time when folks would be free and interested in doing it.
My intention is similar to the lyric ficathon above, but rather than the organizer giving out all the lyrics, I propose to make it more interesting by requiring that each participant bring along two sets of lyrics, which I will then bestow at random amongst the participants.
It would be multi-fandom -- any fandom at all, but no RPF.
I'd also have to say, no slash or adult, but I think folks can cope with that restriction.
Wadda ya think? Suggestions please.

Date: 2005-01-31 08:23 pm (UTC)I thought I'd actually model it after the original (Highlander) Lyric Wheel, and the Sentinel Lyric Wheel, where the idea is to write a story evoked by a song, not a story which is a commentary on the song. Both those required one to include one line from the song in the story (as part of dialogue, or description, or thought, etc). In order to prevent the terribly boring have-characters-listen-to-a-song-and-think-about-it kind of story, I'm contemplating making a rule that the inclusion of song lyric lines is limited to one and only one line. Or maybe no more than three lines.

Date: 2005-01-31 09:32 pm (UTC)It shouldn't matter if two people submit the same song. If I organize it like a Lyric Wheel, then basically I would take the list of all participants, randomize it, and then send the lyrics submitted by Participant A to Participant B and so on down the list. That way everybody gets two sets of lyrics, randomly.

The reason for specifying what fandoms one knows and can write for is really only if one has to deal with matching requests. We have two options, therefore:
(a) no requests, any fandom. The only kind of "request" is the lyrics one recieves. Once one gets the lyrics, one can write whatever one wants, in whatever fandom one wants.
(b) One can request a fandom as well as submitting lyrics. This would thus require listing fandoms one could write in, and entail trying to match fandoms with fandoms. More work for me, less choice for the writers, but possibly more satisfaction for the requesters.
I had intended going for (a) but I could be persuaded to go for (b) with some convincing arguments.
