Service rather than Art
Nov. 7th, 2004 11:40 amI've just gone and processed my site logs, and was looking at the list of referrals... and was quite delighted to find a number of links I didn't recognise, that looked as if they were from individual sites. And even more delighted to find that quite a few of those were fanfic recs pages... and then crashingly dissappointed that they weren't actually reccommending my fiction. They were pointing to my Net-Fic reviews page. I'm never gonna be known for my fic! Still, it is nice to be appreciated in another way... In one sense, I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, because having a really large reviews page is helpful to a much wider audience, while a much smaller body of fanfic would always have less appeal. And I'll always be stuck that way because reviews are easier to write than fanfic. (sigh)
One of them actually did recommend my ficion. My story "Making A Life", which has been surprising me lately with its popularity. When I put a selection of my fiction up on fanfiction.net, that is the story which is getting most of the reviews (and requests for me to continue).
The second-most-reviewed story there is "Holding It In", which is another Sentinel story, this time an AU. And both of them are ones which were Sentinel Lyric Wheel stories, too, which just shows that songfic challenges bring out the best in me (sometimes, anyway).
