Announcement Post

Finally. I spent all morning and half the afternoon fixing bugs with the sign-up website, so I really hope it is working now.

Of course, I did my own signing up when I was debugging the site (http://www.katspace.org/fiction/ficathons/finish-a-thon/2010/author/Kathryn_Andersen/)
I wanted to limit my bunnies this time to things I was more certain that I could finish (am tired of not finishing fic!), but while I'm definitely going to keep the first two in the sign-up (the next Buffy+Doctor story, and a short bridging piece for my Martha-is-a-Timelord series) I'm not so set on what my third option should be, or whether I should give more than three.

What I really really don't want to do this time is start an epic I won't be able to finish. I was stressing enough about my SSHG story, I don't want to stress about this.

So, my friends, here are some of my potential bunnies; if you pipe up, then you could influence what I put up for the vote.

A) Doctor Who/Highlander
"Unhuman Nature": The 10th Doctor and Methos have a chat after "Human Nature" (a Methos-and-the-Doctor story)
This one is the one that is currently on my sign-up page.

B) Harry Potter
AU Time Travel story; Draco realizes he's screwed in Book 6 and sends his mind back in time to give himself a better future.
The problem with this one is that it is far too long for me to do.

C) Sandman/Narnia
"Embodyment of Hope" Aslan meets Despair of the Endless, and she is comforted.
This one has the opposite problem: I think it will be quite short. Still quite a challenge to write, though.

D) Harry Potter/Highlander AU
Methos unexpectedly discovers the Wizarding World (set during Chamber of Secrets)
This one is another one that's too long to do.

E) Doctor Who AU
I'd like to completely rewrite "By Another Name" but the mod doesn't think revision really counts for the finish-a-thon.
Yes, I'm the mod, but I have been unable to persuade myself.

F) Doctor Who AU
The Master-with-Amnesia story which I failed to finish last year.
I don't want to put this one up again because it will be even more disheartening when I fail to finish it AGAIN.

G) Harry Potter AU
Snape's shade, dying on the floor of the Shrieking Shack, goes back in time and warns his past self.
This one wouldn't be too long, but it is so dark I keep on debating with myself whether I want to write it. The idea is, basically, that Future-Snape tells Past-Snape about the Horcruxes, including Harry, and Past-Snape destroys them all - including Harry.

H) Harry Potter AU
Swap Hermione for Harry in the "Abusive Dursleys + Mentor Snape" cliche; abusive Grangers + Mentor Snape.
This one, since it would be an AU retelling of at least some portion of a HP year, would also be too long.

I) Doctor Who/Harry Potter AU
Hermione wanders into the TARDIS through L-Space.
This one doesn't have a plot, so it will be too hard to finish.

J) Doctor Who/Stargate AU
The further adventures of Samantha Carter and the Tenth Doctor.
As I've said before when this has come up, I find it hard to think of a way to keep Carter with the Doctor.

You might note that a lot of my Harry Potter bunnies take an existing HP fic cliche and twist it. I've obviously been reading too much HP fic.

I'm actually thinking of signing up in the hopes of clearing one of my older WIPs.

Doomed, I tell you, doooomed....

Sadly, all my favourites are ones you doubt you can finish. Here's hoping for less stressful times ahead.

Oooo, C and J, please!

I would particularly love to see you do the Sandman/Narnia one--it would be short, but difficult enough to justify the 8 weeks, I think, and could be completely brilliant.

I'd still really like to read F (think how heartening it will be when you succeed!) And I'd be interested in B, if it weren't that I'm about three HP books behind and there seems little prospect of catching up in the foreseeable future. So if you really don't fancy F, I suppose that leaves me with A.
