kerravonsen: The TARDIS: "Any place. Any time. (but not where you intended)" (tardis-any-place)

Okay, now I've made a start on Season 3 of the Sarah Jane Adventures. Here be spoilers.
3x01-2 Prisoner of the Judoon
I don't like the new opening sequence for the episodes. I didn't like it the first time, and I have liked it even less on every repeat. Unfortunately, it's easier to sit through it than put the fast-forward on, because I have a tendency to overshoot.

Best bits of this episode:
* creepy snake-tongue
* Judoon comedy gold with the obedience of regulations

3x03-4 The Mad Woman in the Attic
This gets good marks on the creepiness scale. It also gets good marks on making the bad things actually not malicious.

The resolution was too much instant magic, though. Click your heels three times and say "there's no place like home"...

On the other hand, I like the fanfic potential of Eve being out there in space (being a possible ally of the Doctor, of course). I liked Eve (more than I liked Sam or Adam, I admit). She reminded me of [livejournal.com profile] lizbee for some reason. No, I'm not saying that LizBee has a lobster complexion. 8-P

So, what this says about the future is that Rani gets married, and that she inherits the house on Bannerman Road from Sarah-Jane. I'm sure some fans are rubbing their hands, saying that that proves that Rani marries Luke. It certainly does seem to be the most straightforward explanation.

3x05-6 The Wedding of Sarah-Jane Smith
I was looking forward to this too much, and was somewhat disappointed. Yes, yay for the Doctor, but I wish there'd been less running around and telling each other how marvellous each other was, and more actual plot and wit. Who wrote this? (looks it up) Gareth Roberts. Hmmm, he wrote some of the good episodes of SJA, actually (Whatever Happened to Sarah Jane?, Secrets of the Stars). Maybe I was just expecting too much. (sigh)

I'm getting utterly sick and tired of the Trickster. Once was good (very good), twice was acceptable, three times was just too much. Is he going to destroy the world annually from now on?

Peter Dalton was nice, though. I have a feeling I've seen that actor before, but I can't remember where. Of course, I was waiting for the other shoe to drop, because of course Sarah-Jane wouldn't be allowed to get married.

Interesting that they said that Sarah-Jane was "loaded", that she inherited a fortune from her aunt. It half makes sense, and half doesn't. It makes sense because it explains how S-J pays the bills without having a regular job. It doesn't make sense, because Aunt Lavinia was a scientist, and scientists don't tend to make a lot of money. We don't know where Aunt Lavinia got her money from.

The actor who played Peter Dalton was in a smattering at least of shows/miniseries on the BBC in the 80s. Only one I can name off-hand is their adaption of "A Little Princess": he played Carmichael.

Nigel Havers, who played Peter Dalton, is very well known over here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigel_Havers#Credits

Probably scientists make more money in the Whoniverse than in the real world. They certainly do more exciting jobs! :)

I'd been watching an old BBC drama series called "A Horseman Riding By" and nearly flipped when I realised that Sarah Jane's fiancee was the lead actor from that series (and had aged very well).

Scientists do make money sometimes - invent the right thing and you're there. But maybe Lavinia had inherited money which allowed her to persue science as a hobby?

I'm very behind on SJA, but I went ahead and watched The Wedding of..., because of the Doctor, and I actually liked it a lot. It probably helped that I'd only seen one of the Trickster epiosdes (Whatever Happened...?), and that I know enough Old Skool now to be amused at some of the callbacks. (Such as the Doctor calling her Sarah rather than Sarah Jane, and defending his usage to the kids.)

And I admit that the final scene between Sarah Jane and the Doctor choked me up far more than any part of Waters of Mars. "Don't forget me."
