Jul. 12th, 2008 09:32 pm1. slept in
2. got call from bro D
3. kept on getting phone calls where people would hang up as soon as I answered the phone.
4. sent off my
dw_cross story, as I said earlier.
5. decided what to wear to D-from-work's wedding
6. found card to give them
7. stuff
8. got rugged up and went to corner to get out money and get takeaway lunch
9. ate late lunch while reading "The Goose Girl"
10. made first attempt at recording podfic.
11. ordered taxi.
12. waited for taxi.
13. got taxi to wedding.
14. Wedding was in the hall of a Hindu temple (yes). The only non-Indian people there were a couple of other people from work. The invitation had been at short notice. Lots of gorgeous Indian saris and stuff worn by the women. The bride (D) looked fabulous. Lots of chanting and throwing rice+ghee into a brasier, and walking around the braisier by the bride and groom. And stuff. Everyone on the stage was barefoot or in socks. A cold day, I'm sure all the women were freezing. There were wishes for the bride and groom to have lots of progeny. Everyone cheered when the celebrant said "I now declare you man and wife".
15. Post-wedding ceremony mingling and sitting around. Hugged the bride (and gave them card (which had money inside)). D asked me to please stay for the food (I'd indicated I might not stay long) because it was proper and good luck and that sort of thing. So I did. Lots of sitting bemused while waiting for that. Lots of people talking in what I assume was Hindi.
16. Food. I was a bit worried in case we'd have to eat it traditional without cutlery, but there was cutlery (everything disposable, which was sensible). Yes, all Indian food, but nice Indian food. I ate. I said goodbye. I left.
17. Walked out in the dark (it was almost 7:30pm by this time) up the street to the main road; two trams passed before I got there. I started walking in the direction of Camberwell junction (I remembered the map); walked three tram stops before another tram came by. Caught the tram. While I'd been walking, I listened to my podfic. Decided I'd have to record it again, too many stumbles.
18. Got off at Camberwell junction. Wasn't sure of my direction this time, followed other people who'd gotten off. They went far ahead, I kept walking. It had been years since I'd last been to Camberwell; I used to go there regularly when I lived in Hawthorn, for shopping. But I eventually reoriented myself, and made it to the station.
19. Waited for train.
20. Caught train.
21. Got off at Mitcham. Had missed the last bus. And there were no taxis at the station.
22. Walked home, took I don't know how long. An hour? More? Listened to "Fledgling" on my MP3 player while I walked. Got through 3 chapters or so.
23. Got home about 9:30pm. Am totally exhausted.
