More Brightness
Mar. 24th, 2008 01:08 pmUnexpected stuff last night, plus what I did this morning...
We were eating dinner all together last night, when J decided to ring up JU on his mobile. JU (who was J's Best Man at his wedding) happens to have a place at Mt. Hotham (which is nearish to Bright, one goes past Bright on the way). And what happened? JU was on his way to Hotham at that very moment. So he and his wife were able to make a slight detour to see us. Yay! Yes, JU is a particular friend of J, but he's also a friend of the family, and I hadn't seen him for ages. So that was good.
In the not-so-good, I seem to have strained my ankle or something, anyway, it hurts, so I decided not to join this morning's expedition to Mt. Buffalo, because the only things one could do would be riding or walking, and to be stuck there, well, I didn't want to be. Though D tried to pressure me into going. But I didn't.
So I had a quiet morning.
- tried to get connected to the wireless, but the signal strength wasn't strong enough, for some reason
- pondered and coded a bit more on my X11::Muralis module, trying to figure out the best way of implementing display backends for it
- had a hankering for chips, so I wandered into town (but through the park first). Took photos of ducks until my camera informed me the battery was flat! Ooops. I'd forgotten to charge it last night.
- went further into town looking for chips, but the special fish-and-chip shop wasn't open until noon, so I decided to have an ice-cream cone instead. Double waffle cone, three flavours: cookies-and-cream, butterscotch and blackberry. The blackberry was the best of the three. (I was mistaken, yesterday I'd had Blueberry and Strawberry, not Blackberry and Strawberry). The best flavour so far has to be the blueberry, with real blueberry bits in it. No great surprise, since all the berries are locally grown.
- I sat on a bench by the river to eat my ice-cream, which was very restful, watching and listening to the water flowing.
- then I walked back up and made myself lunch (salad and crackers and cheese and Bickfords Creamy Soda)
- and now I am on the net!
