Aotearoa day 8 (part)
Oct. 26th, 2007 01:21 pmWe have just now come home bearing loot!
vilakins and I went to the Market, and bought much Pretties. And had lunch in the middle, too.
I bought:
I bought:
- Six strands of stone beads (some sort of green stone, tigers-eye, amethyst, and artificial moonstone). Vilakins got some strands of turquoise and some variegated stone beads.
- A set (earrings + pendant) of lovely purple dichroic glass. I was just going to get the earrings (because my old lovely set of purple earrings had broken a while back) but I ended up getting the matching pendant as well. Vilakins got a pendant which was a mixture of transparent and green and pink (no, it looks better than it sounds)
- Two identical strands of hand-made magnetic jewelery (evenly spaced magnetic beads which you do the fastening with, makes it very versatile) in haematite-grey (the magnetic beads) + silver + blue pearl + blue paua shell -- lovely! I showed Vilakins what I got, and she ended up buying four strands -- one pearly, one brown, one green-blue cloissone and one jade, and some earrings, and then the stallholder persuaded her to get a lovely mixed-blue feathery shawl-cum-scarf, after showing us about five different ways of wearing it.
- A silver-and-paua-shell pendant in the shape of a fish-hook; it was hard to decide what to get because there were lots of stands with paua-shell jewellry, but a lot of it was just a bit too tacky, not that well designed. But I liked the shape of the fish-hook in this one, even though there was less actual paua-shell than in some of the others. I was also tempted by some greenstone jewelery which was very well-designed, but also expensive.
- Some lovely wool/silk (30% silk, 70% wool) scarves. We'd been sitting in the shade, drinking a cool drink (it was surprisingly hot in the sun) discussing colour-matching (Vilakins is a Spring, I'm a Winter) and then we went to this shawl stall to point out various colours that were Spring colours, and I ended up buying three scarves (two for me, one as a pressie for Vilakins); (a) grey with a subtle pattern (b) pink and lavender reversable with a diamond pattern (c) turquoise with the same diamond pattern.
