Reducing the Load

I've just realized that I've been committed to far too many things this year, and in the interest of not burning out, I'm going to drop a few of them.

To wit:

- forget about the "NOT The Last of the Time Lords" ficathon. If people want one, they can organize it themselves.
- Next year, the only ficathon I'm going to organize is the finish-a-thon. No GenRemix, and no Multi-Fandom-Lyric-Wheel. Again, if people want them, they can organize it themselves.
- The only major ficathon I intend to participate in next year (besides the finish-a-thon) is Multiverse. Minor ones that come up, I'll consider on a case-by-case basis. I still have 90-odd stories to write for crossovers100, anyway.
- Due to visiting vilakins next month, I'm taking a month off from running icon_style.
- I'll probably also extend the deadline for the finish-a-thon, but I don't want to announce that until I'm more certain.
- Next year, I'll probably make August and September "holidays" in icon_style, due to people concentrating on naarmamo in August, and being "all arted out" from that effort and needing to take a break in September.
- I may or may not participate in glarmaco.
- I will continue to probably not participate much in b7friday.

I do still intend to participate in naarmamo next year; I do think it is worthwhile. Likewise, I'm still really enjoying running icon_style: I find both those things stretching my art skills. I also do intend to continue to participate in the "one B7 episode a week" thing on the Lyst.

This sounds like an important step for the preservation of sanity. I applaud you -- I rarely go so far as to formally drop projects, I just let them fall by the wayside, unacknowledged and guilt-inspiring.

I'm not sure whether I would have been more likely to do that, or to have killed myself trying to do everything. As it is, there are a few things on the above list I wouldn't have dropped if not for Mum saying "Don't even think about doing them!"

Aw, I shall miss your other ficathons (particularly the MultiFandom Lyric Wheel), but this does sound like a smart idea, clearing life up a little. Maybe it'll be good for me, too, since it's mostly your ficathons I'm doing now (having ditched all others for my original/spec work).

Or maybe I'll get crazy next year and decide I would like to try running something similar. Hmmm...

I do like the Lyric Wheel myself, it's inspired some cool fic, made me write stuff I would never have thought of, but I think I'll be sufficiently challenged by Multiverse, which has also made me write cool stuff I would never have thought of. I'm not ruling out running the Lyric Wheel in the future, because I still like the idea, but not next year. In fact, I think, not until I've finished my crossovers100 stories. That's sufficient challenge for me, I think.

And while I suppose I could run a ficathon without participating, that would be a real drag. So I say "no!".

Maybe it'll be good for me, too, since it's mostly your ficathons I'm doing now (having ditched all others for my original/spec work).

I thought you were a regular contributor to the Invisible Man virtual seasons?

If you do, try to do everything in your power to make it stress-free. And one of those things is not to stress about things that are out of your control. If people don't do things you want (such as sign up) then that's their problem, not yours.
