Some people do crosswords or jigsaw puzzles for a brain-exersizing hobby; I write open-source software for mine. It's a lot more satisfying and I end up with something useful at the end, which one can't say for crossword puzzles.

Well, actually you get a bigger vocabulary and a ton of trivial knowledge. But programming's way more fun.

I acquired Liberty Basic via a magazine cover disc, and spent many happy hours writing code for a game where you wander through an infinite forest hacking up an infinite number of bad guys and nicking their loot. No, not terribly original, but it was enormous fun trying to make the program do things. And working out why it wasn't doing them.

Yeah, it was the "making the computer do stuff" that addicted me to programming. I wonder if that means that I'm a closet megalomaniac?
