Love Has Come

He is risen indeed!
We had a lovely family dinner at my brother's place, and after the dinner, we did a cool thing; each person had to find something on the table that symbolized Easter for them, and explain why. Since my S-i-L had decorated the table with various interesting things, there was stuff apart from cutlery and plates to choose from. Everyone chose one, and then some people chose a few more things, getting into the spirit of things. The items chosen were:
- rose petal
- red for the blood of Christ, shed for us
- hot cross bun
- The cross on which He died for us
- centrepiece of Scotch Thistles (twice)
- Thorns and thistles were a symbol of the consequence of the Fall, and like thistles, sin is just as impossible to eradicate from our lives; and yet, in the ultimate irony, the king of all the world was crowned with a crown of thorns, the sinless one crowned with the symbol of sin, as he bore our sins
- The centrepiece was actually three thistles on one branch, so that evoked the Trinity, the love and pain mingled on the Cross
- 1/3 full glass of red wine (twice)
- Wine as the blood of Christ, and as alchohol cleanses, so does the blood of Christ. Also, this person didn't like alchohol, so the taste reminded them of the pain and bitterness of the Cross
- The glass of wine was 1/3 full, just as this person's life was getting near its end, and yet with Christ, her cup was full, and overflowing.
- bottle of wine
- Easter is a family time, and the wine comes out on family occassions.
- a stone
- reminded of the nails that nailed Christ to the Cross
- a white feather
- White for purity, as Christ was pure, and made us pure through him
- a raw egg, cracked into a glass of wine
- Our life now is like an egg, but we join in Christ's life (just as the egg was mixed with the wine). We are like eggs now, but when Christ comes again we shall be raised to new life, like an egg becomes a chicken.
- a painted egg
- Our life is hid in Christ, just as an egg is a sign of potential life
- Passionfruit cheesecake
- The best is saved until last.
- Passionfruit is named after the "passion flower", which reminds people of the Passion of Christ. (See WikiPedia on Passion Flower)
