kerravonsen: Tenth Doctor contemplating a chip. (Doc10)
[personal profile] kerravonsen

Yesterday I was going through various files on my computer, and found some art which I hadn't yet put up on my gallery. Some of them were the full-size images which were related to icons I'd made. So I'm posting (links to) them here, along with said icon. (no I can't post the pictures themselves because of the setup on my site to prevent bandwidth theft)

IconDescriptionRelated Art
Jack: Winsome Smile Jack: Winsome Smile
tardis_icons challenge #20 (screencaps)
Jack: Aw Shucks I did more work on the icon; this image is more of its ancestor; I like a lot about it but certain elements couldn't survive the shrinkage to icon size, while others in the icon version look better than here.
10th Doctor: Still the Doctor 10th Doctor: Still the Doctor
tardis_icons challenge #22 (screencap challenge) Won the "best use of screencap"!
10th Doctor: Still The Doctor: this is a demonstration of how one design can feed back to another; I had first worked on the large image, ending it with a brown wash over all, then I shrunk it to work on as an icon, and ended up with the rainbow wash. When I found it again yesterday, I decided I wanted to reproduce that look in the large-size version, because I liked it. Then I had to try to reproduce the exact gradient I'd used in the icon! Glad I'm now in the habit of keeping the GIMP .xcf files of finished works. I also tweaked this to add a bit more smooth blending of the images and the background, which wasn't noticeable in the small icon size. I'm pleased with this one.
8th Doctor: Cut Adrift 8th Doctor: Cut Adrift
The 8th Doctor doesn't know who he is... This was done for the dw_stillness challenge #2: lyric challenge; one had to include at least three consecutive words from the chosen lyrics.
Cut Adrift: this one is an example of how two designs can split, while still influencing each other. I'd been aiming for a particular combination of elements, but found I couldn't get it to work, and ended up with a layered effect of two images on top of each other. That didn't work at icon size, so I abandoned that idea, while still keeping one of the images and a similar background. But I really liked the effect at the large size, so I kept it as a separate image, and tweaked it around to make it look better.
