Odd thoughts
Nov. 26th, 2004 02:58 pmWhile I was eating lunch and attempting to distract myself from distressing subjects, this thought popped into my brain: "Christianity is like a project that's forked". I speak of FOSS software, which means those of you who aren't familiar with the terminology can go away now, and those who aren't interested in Christianity can also go away now, and the remaining audience of zero can listen to me ramble a bit more.
Christianity is like a project that's forked. Then again, you could consider that Judaism is like a project that's forked, into modern Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Different denominations are like different distributions of Linux. People get very het-up and excited about which one is the best, but underneath, the kernel is the same. They also have different systems of organization, from Benevolent Dictator, to oligarchy, to purely democratic. They are run by volunteers(professionals and non-professionals) (paid and unpaid) and rely on donations. The motivations for joining in vary, altruistic, economic and/or social. A lot of the people just want to benefit mankind... 8-)
