Chestertonia
Nov. 1st, 2004 03:03 pmI have just gone on a Chesterton spree at Amazon. Spent far too much (seven books!):
St Thomas Aquinas + St Francis of Assisi
The Everlasting Man
Collected Works vol 1 (Blatchford Controversies + Heretics + Orthodoxy)
Manalive
The Flying Inn
The Paradoxes of Mr. Pond
The Man Who Knew Too Much
It all came about when I decided to watch the box when I got home from the doctor, and because I haven't gotten around to turning off my Cable yet, I looked at the program guide and noticed there was a program just noted as "G. K. Chesterton". Since I'm interested in his stuff (I own and adore "Orthodoxy", "The Napoleon of Notting Hill" and "The Man Who Was Thursday". I also own, but don't adore "The Ball and the Cross" and "The Complete Father Brown") So I looked at the program, which I caught the last 15 minutes of, where this guy was giving a rundown on GKC's books (some of them). Turns out he'd written a heck of a lot more than I was aware. And then I saw in the credits a website, www.chesterton.org which is the site of the American Chesterton Society, so I went and had a look. They had lots of books for sale, but no on-line ordering system, so I went to Amazon. "Why," you ask, "didn't you just wait and go to your local bookstore?" Because I'd be lucky if they had "The Man Who Was Thursday", let alone anything else.
The selection at Amazon was a subset of that on the Chesterton site, but seven is still a lot of books. (shakes head soberly at self). Still, I should enjoy myself in about 2-6 weeks when they arrive...
