Gacking things from all over the place...

I improved my Avon + Cally icon after [livejournal.com profile] synaesthete7 pointed out this icon tutorial (though I didn't add text to my icon because when I did it just looked crowded). I may work on a replacement for my "You Are Here" icon though I'm not sure what with.

Then [livejournal.com profile] vilakins pointed out this article which I should wave the next time someone wants to drag me to a party (not that people do, really, except at cons).

Okay, physically my leg is now twinging on and off. I've been working from home the last two days, after finding another bout of lunchtime agony. Ugh. Mum's trying to get her physio to see me but he's on holidays... and I just end up feeling guilty for having walked wrongly or something. But workly I feel accomplished since I was faced this morning with a problem I didn't think I could solve, but eventually managed to track down the most obstreperous error message in a mailing list archive (Google Is Your Friend) and a helpful reply (sometimes one finds mailing list archives which have people posting about the same error you have, but nobody ever replied to them...)

And yesterday I made a pea-and-ham-soup variant (using the ham bone from the Christmas Ham) -- I added dried apples (and a bit of dried apricot) to the mix. So, yeah, it is sweeter. Ended up very thick. Mum & Dad are coming over to share the last of it with me. I've thinned it down somewhat now. And they should have been here quarter of an hour ago, I'd better go check the soup!

Well, you know what it's like with me in front of the computer...

I've gone and made myself a replacement icon. Perhaps not so recognisable, but it's Jim and Blair (or, more correctly, Blair and Jim) of The Sentinel. Much clipping and moving was done, the background was zapped, and replaced with a light texture, we've also got a wash of colour... Must remember: the text was done in white on a transparent layer, then that layer was duplicated, did a select-by-colour of white, then increased the selection by 1 pixel, then filled with black, then moved the black "text copy" layer below the original text layer, and voila! White text with a black border.

This was about the fourth one I'd tried; the other attempts are all zapped, except for a Tegan one, which will probably languish incomplete, especially as I can only have three icons and I don't want to remove the ones I have now.
