Is your memory especially bad? If it was me, I think I'd just put "do dishes" and leave it at that.

It's got nothing to do with my memory. My memory is fantastic.
The point is to make it easier to do by breaking it down into discrete tasks rather than one massive task, and to reward myself by being able to cross things off. I hate doing the dishes. I don't need a list to tell me how to do the dishes! There is no requirement in dishes-doing that says the dishwasher must be loaded as soon as it is emptied. They are two distinct tasks. So I list them as two distinct tasks.
