though I confused myself because I thought the end of Thin Ice with the waifs moving in to the big manor house and the young people moving in to this house were linked, and they were not. I don't think that was intentional on the show maker's part, but it bothered me.

Yeah, you mentioned that in regard to the previous episode. You really confused yourself! I didn't see any connection between the two at all, not even a hint.

I loved the Pop Goes The Weasel! Wonderful touch, that.
