So, since I've been craving Nine fic, is this fic kosher for those who have seen only S1, or do you need to have seen some of S2 to understand it and/or avoid being spoiled?

It sort of is maybe spoilery perhaps. It's set during the last episode of S1, so definitely spoilery for that. Since it's AU, it doesn't make any plotty references to S2 or S3, BUT it does make use of some concepts from S3, so you might consider it spoilery for S3, or you might not.

Yay! I was surfing your LJ for Nine fic the other day at work, and I discovered that while I can get to KatSpace at home, my work computer refuses to connect to it. No idea why, but it's probably something on my end (it doesn't like g-mail or a number of other sites, either). So I'll make these into text files and send them to my work computer for next week's post-morning-rush reads!

If you were trying last week, it might have been when the server was down while I was away.

I really enjoyed this. I was able to follow most of it with only secondhand familiarity with the canon--I think the only place I really got lost was the game show thing at the end, and I'm guessing this had something to do with how the Daleks got into position. I think I got... not exactly a chill when Romana-Rose gave her new tonguetwister name, but kind of a vicarious chill, thinking of how the Doctor might have felt on hearing that proclaimed.

I kind of want to cry for Jackie and Mickey, for loss and pride in them, helping her--because she has to do this, both of her have to do this, and they understand that--while knowing they're going to lose her.

I really enjoyed this.

Perhaps I should clarify. I've never seen any episode. This rarely stops me from reading a fic that sounds otherwise interesting. *grin* I've started enough series in the middle that I'm reasonably comfortable reading stories that assume a certain level of knowledge I haven't got.

Although in this case, I also read your earlier story Necessity, which I think is actually what introduced me to the plot of the episode.

Yeah, "Necessity" had more details about "Parting of the Ways" in it. This one I didn't feel the need to say as much.

OK, I've read three of the finish-a-thon stories so far, counting my own, and apparently all three of them have involved people having other people's memories in their heads. I'm deeply amused by this, and rather oddly pleased. :)

As for this, the main thing I have to say is that your Romana voice sounds very much like her, I think, even when she's half-Rose.

I do think I've found one typo, while you're waiting for your betas:

No, it's meant to be the Year 200,000's name for Europe. I checked the episode; Lynda definitely says "Europa" when she's talking about Europe. The other continents have slightly different names too.

To quote from the transcript:

[The diagram on the screen shows waves of red light radiating from the continents as she says their names]

It was originally just going to be "Romana-Rose Tyler, last President of Gallifrey", but I realized when I came to that bit that she would really express her selfness by blending her whole name to show her whole self.

I know I left a dangling plot-thread regarding Jack's missing two years, but I really don't know what happened, and I don't know how he could find out, either.

I've already told you this privately, but I'd like to say publicly, that I think that this is a marvellous story. I've found that betaing stories for people on my flist is good fun. The stories always seem to need very little further work by the time I get to see them, and I get to read a good story a week or two earlier than I would otherwise have done.

Yeah. Jack likes who he is, and wants to stay that way. Not that Rose doesn't like who Rose is but... actually, when you think about it, what both those decisions have in common is a desire to embrace the universe. Rose becomes more by being Romana-Rose, while Jack can't be certain that the Time Lord Ansenbrin will be as much of a "citizen of the universe" as Jack is. After all, Jack likes shagging everything in sight (evil grin).
