I love all the dual purposes you have thought of! ;^D

And I also love my cast iron: I have a set (two skillets and a flat grill) inherited from my late mother-in-law, who inherited it from her mother who inherited it from her mother-in-law, which makes it at the very least a hundred and fifteen years old. It is sturdy and smoother than modern "non-stick" surfaces, and true to her teaching I never touch it with detergent or scrubbers. I use it a LOT!

There was a third skillet, but my sister-in-law got that one, and then it was lost in Hurricane Katrina.

Salt.

To make meat tasty.
Also for casting in circles to ward off or trap demons.

Cast iron is the best stuff ever. My dutch oven is in constant use, as are my various sizes of skillets and my deep fryer.

Is your cast iron made in NZ or AU or imported?

Is there any writing or mark on the bottom? I've tried to track down the age of mine and the dutch oven my grandmother gave me is 100 years old. It's so fascinating to me.
