Macrame is cool. I taught myself from books when I was a teenager, because I was always looking for new crafts (and because I didn't want to learn crochet or knitting because they were too girly). There are really only two basic knots, upon which all the other knots are based.
The way I did this necklace was that I had one length of tiger-tail, which I strung the beads on, and a length of ribbon which was four times the length of the tiger-tail. Attached the ribbon in the middle to the top of the tiger-tail (so one has two strands to work with), and tied spiral knots, and then started stringing the beads on the tiger-tail, and tying knots with the ribbon after every bead.
"Proper" micro-macrame is supposed to use all the same yarn, but that would have meant that I couldn't use that particular ribbon because it was too thick to string the beads on, so I improvised. Best of both worlds, really.
The book I am using is Micro-Macrame 30 Beaded Designs for Jewelry Using Crystals and Cords and it is pretty good, with clear step-by-step instructions with photographs. Though, as I said, my green necklace above isn't from the book. I intend to start one of the designs from the book today, though.
Very cool! I have a book and even some coloured cord, bought together at a second-hand sale, and I'd like to teach myself and make beaded chokers for summer. So far I haven't got round to it.
I do know how to knit and crochet and I'm going to use those skills now I've improved on them to make fannish stuffed dolls.

I finished the second earring yesterday morning and immediately wore the whole ensemble to work (over a contrasting purple shirt).

now I wish I didn't have over a dozen craft WIPs that mean that I am *not allowed* to start another one. :(

Yeah, having multiple craft WIPs is as distracting as having multiple fiction WIPs... except they take up more space.
