Random stuff

While I was sick, I was watching the first season of Numb3rs. I like, I like! I ♥ Larry, and Charlie, and Don, and Alan. I love how Charlie and Larry relate everything in the world to maths and physics. The science geek in me is squeeing at how much of the science is correct (if sometimes oversimplified). (Ionizing radiation! Electron orbits! Binary data envisaged as millions of coins flipping head or tails!)

So yesterday, I tried to find the second season on DVD, and I couldn't find it anywhere. So I finally resorted to ordering it from Amazon, but that means I have to wait weeks before I can watch season 2. Wah!

In other news, I have decided that my favourite Tim Tams are Double Coated and the new Honeycomb Crunch (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] sallymn for pointing out its existence).

Whee!!!! Isn't S1 of N3 just the greatest?

I will warn you that there were some unexpected changes in S2, but I got used to them and have come to love the additional characters. S2 has some really, really solid stuff in it, but just don't be too thrown by some of the changes.

As for the science and math being accurate . . . that's one of the things the show (and its science and math consultants) pride themselves on. :-)

ETA: Tim Tams are very yummy. One of my favorite things that Geo brought back from his trip Down Under. (My mostest fave thing was the opal pendant he brought me.)

Yes, you appear to know about Megan. :-) I'll admit she made me twitchy at first, but once I figured out she wasn't flirting with Charlie but was genuinely interested in his approach to problem-solving, I started to really like her.

Of the foodstuffs Geo brought back from his trip, the Tim Tams were my fave. The Violet Crumbles were okay, though hard candy bars are not really my thing. And the musk Lifesavers were just . . . weird. They tasted like perfume to me, but Geo really liked them. And sadly, the beer he discovered and declared to be his favorite, VB, isn't available on this side of the Pacific.

Oh, and of course there's the Lamington recipe. Good stuff.

I love Numb3rs! *huggles all the pretty smart people* And when you get into S3/S4, you can read Izh and Felicia's fic! Which is wonderful. I have yet to try my own hand at writing N3 fic, but I know there's a really funny SG-1 crossover in there somewhere. Probably more than one.

[identity profile] izhilzha.livejournal.com 2008-03-03 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, Felicia and I have both written some S2 fic, also ("In Plain Sight" was S2, so that was when I first wrote Numb3rs fic). :-)

Ooo. I may have to bug you for this crossover, now. *plots*

[identity profile] kalquessa.livejournal.com 2008-03-03 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll write one if you will! (Because you know Sam has read Larry's work, and probably Charlie's.)

*frets for a moment*

Okay, fine. We'll have a mini-ficathon between the two of us. (I actually already have a possible plot; see my response to [livejournal.com profile] mistraltoes' entry in the title meme, The Trouble With Wormholes. *g*)

[identity profile] kalquessa.livejournal.com 2008-03-04 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
No pressure, dude, I don't want to make your head explode. Whenever you have time and energy, we shall have our mini-ficathon. (Although your tribble sounds a lot more...involved...than mine. Mine will probably end up being along the lines of my House crossover: I shove some characters from each show into a room and watch them banter.)

[identity profile] kalquessa.livejournal.com 2008-03-04 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Of course Larry's met the Doctor! And Charlie! Both fics are conventiently located together here.

Edit: Aaaand I see you already knew about those fics. Duh. *headdesk*

[identity profile] izhilzha.livejournal.com 2008-03-04 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I have a tribble in the hutch about the Doctor (probably Nine) and Larry. :-) Because I think he'd make a terrific companion, even a temporary one.

(Mind, if you end up writing one first, I won't complain; this one hasn't managed to be written yet.)

[identity profile] izhilzha.livejournal.com 2008-03-03 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I'm so glad you're enjoying Numb3rs. I love it, but I'm never quite sure which of my friends will also see the love (usually it's the geeks, but they have to like mysteries, too).

And isn't Larry just wonderful? I have the biggest crush on him. Not even joking.

The Eppes family dynamics, too, make the show stand out.

(I have to second Felicia's caution about season 2--there are some unexpected bumps in the road and cast changes, but nothing to disturb the people you mentioned by name in your post. Just saying that if you hit a few eps that seem odd or sub-par, hang on. It only gets better.

Something as good as the honeycomb Tim Tams needs to be shared... :)

Geeks Rule! I love Numb3rs too.

[identity profile] izhilzha.livejournal.com 2008-03-04 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Numb3rs wins! :-)

[identity profile] mistraltoes.livejournal.com 2008-03-04 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
Well, it's about time! :D Yay for Larry-love!!!

So. I'm hoping that the fact you said, "While I was sick" means that you're feeling better now, yes?

And, er... if you're looking for Numb3rs fic, you could now read Apparition (http://mistraltoes.livejournal.com/222255.html), which is set at some indeterminate point in the first two seasons. I'd love to know whether you think I got the voices right.

But again, yay for watching Numb3rs!
