If you give me one or more titles of stories I didn't write (optional: characters or other details) I'll give you a summary of the nonexistent story.

A case of mistaken identity plagues the third Doctor as he lands in Stodge City in the Wild West era, and is mistaken for Sheriff Albert Earp...

Sandy always knew that the folks who lived on Angel Mountain weren't canny. But soon he would be plunged into an adventure stranger than he could have imagined. (A People story)

And you're right, it is a perfect title for a story about them.

I don't think I could really ever write a People story, though.

Was that The People, no different flesh. That was the one I read when I first started working in libraries in 1972 and grabbed it when it was discarded because of low issues in 1974,some people have no taste. I had to wait 5 years before I got hold of Holding Wonder and I've never tracked down any others in the UK but hopefully they are all in the first one

It has a lovely cover. At the top, a deep midnight/twilight blue sky. Then in the background, rugged mountain/canyon brown.
In the foreground, what looks like, at first glance, a girl in blue checked gingham sitting on a weathered wooden fence, holding a candle. Then you do a double-take, because the fence is broken and she's actually sitting on air. And she isn't holding a candle, she's making the air glow...
Really nice cover.

You'd be much better off getting Ingathering
which I've just looked at amazon.com and they have it for US$25. Especially since it appears to be more complete than "The People Collection", since, comparing its table of contents with my book, it has two stories in it that I don't have.
Which just demonstrates that I am not a Real Fan, since I don't wish to buy a whole new book from overseas (and a hardback -- I prefer paperbacks) just for two stories and a chronology.

I know them! I adored them as a teenager.

Next of Kin

(Doctor Who, set in the "Necessity" universe) The Doctor, Rose, and Jack play trivial pursuit.
"Next of Kin"
(Matrix/Stingray crossover) Steven Matrix and his twin brother Ray parted angrily many years ago. Steven doesn't even know where Ray is, and he doesn't want to know. But when you're dealing with the denizens of the City Inbetween, things that were buried have a tendency to come to light, in the most uncomfortable way.

Methos and the 9th Doctor have a heart-to-heart about mass murder.

And, of course, whether either of them would actually talk about such things.

A really wierd crossover: Aslan meets Despair of the Endless, and she is comforted.
(inspiration has not struck me for the others, yet)

In a bazzar in the far future, multiple crossover encounters occur.
"The Last Place"
How Methos decided to join the Watchers.
"Forrest Gump"
"But Buffy, it followed me home," Dawn whined. "Can't I keep it?"
"Blue Angel"
An encounter between a child and Zhaan.
"Hotel California"
Who are the figures dancing in the courtyard? What is the song that whispers through the corridors? It may seem like an ordinary run-down hotel, but Something is trying to break through from beyond. Something that shouldn't be there.
Sapphire and Steel have been assigned.
"American Woman"
Willow in England.

This sounds uterly fantastic - and it can go so many ways, too!
"The Last Place"
How Methos decided to join the Watchers.
...........OOOooooooooooooooh. GOOD use of that title!!
"Forrest Gump"

"Blue Angel"
An encounter between a child and Zhaan.
...I really, really, really, really, want to read this!

...I wish I knew this fandom so I could know exactly how cool this is.

Thanks. I'm glad you think it clicks. The "last place" anyone would look...

Sorry, not even on my list of likely possibles.

Sapphire and Steel is so cool that I don't feel qualified to write any fic for it. There is one fic on my to-do list, but the only reason I think I can write it is because it was inspired by a dream.
Sapphire and Steel are mysterious agents of a completely unknown power, who appear suddenly in situations where Time (which is a dangerous and violent force) threatens to break through into the present. It has a similar feel to a few Doctor Who episodes like "The Awakening" -- time is out of joint, ghosts and manifestations from the past, a claustrophobic and trapped feel. It favours atmosphere over explanation. There were only ever six adventures made, though it has recently been revived in audio form by Big Finish. The series itself is also out on DVD, at least in the UK and Australia.
The situation described in the song "Hotel California" would be right down their alley, I think. "You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave..."
