A Year In Craft - December (12/12)

The start of December, I finished off a number of half-done projects so that I could contribute to the "Creating A Welcome" craft market which was raising money for the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, which had been pointed out to me by [livejournal.com profile] reynardo which we had both intended to make gifts for, but other things happened... so I was making gifts at the start of December. December was also the month of last-minute gifts and of one more fan fest.

The following were made for the craft market.

bracelet

Rainbow-bands bracelet where I was experimenting with beads. This was finished by joining the ends together (since it was large and stretchy enough not to need a clasp).

set

Rainbow-bands necklace, bracelet and earring set, all spool-knit from earlier in the year. This was finished by adding findings to the earrings.

necklace

I love the yarn this is made from, a mix of grey and silvery-grey.

necklace

You may recognise the Kumihimo braid that I made earlier in the year. I bound it off and added a pre-purchased pendant. The pendant is laser-cut black-painted wood, I got them in a set of half-a-dozen or so. Simple and elegant look, there.

necklace

Another recent experimentation has been with twisted cords. I bought a kit which included a cord-twisting device, but after trying it out, I realized it was a waste of money because I then found a tutorial on the internet which suggested using an electric egg beater for twisting cords, and I tried it, and found it much more effective. However, this cord was made before that, with rattail-yarn from the kit. This pendant I made myself (!) attaching purple and silver leaves (some of which I wire-wrapped) to a three-strand teardrop-shaped drop-finding.

necklace

This is another twisted cord, with another black rose pendant.

necklace

The other lavender-and-blue twisted cord. I was very glad to find that it went well with that glass starfish which I had owned for a while but never found anything to go well with it.

Gifts:

trivet

I have been pondering for a while how to make a trivet from these large wooden rings and crochet, but I was having trouble getting it to work. Then FD (whom I only ever see in the bus) suggested a few things while I was working on it, and the final thing that worked was attaching the rings to each other with half-hitches. The outside of the trivet is crocheted with brown South American cotton. Christmas present for FA.

necklace

Spool-knit cord on a pre-purchased lampwork pendant. Christmas present for M.

I did craft for the [livejournal.com profile] severus_fest but I cannot discuss it since the reveals won't happen for a few weeks yet.

So that was a year full of craft! I'd forgotten the huge amount I'd done, not just when I was off work, but all through the year. So that's good - I have Accomplished!

They're all so very different and original! The trivet is very clever and inventive; I like how the hexagon is shown in the pale and dark threads.

Your magic is great. Wonderful items!
