Thought For The Day

Here is a metric for women's equality: 50% participation in all professions that do not require a penis. Contrary to expectations of the males of the species, there is only one profession that does require a penis: that of Gigolo.

And not necessarily even that, if there's any creativity that can be tapped.

I'd actually disagree with that.

50% participation would mean that ALL women go out to work, implying that they are not allowed to chose whether they'd rather remain at home and raise their children themselves.

I believe in equality of opportunity, not necessarily equal numbers.

Some men want to stay at home with the kids - and they should have the right to do so.

However, it's a far more common desire among women. (and men, wonderful though they are, can't breast feed)

Equality is a shaky term and has subtly different meanings. If the genders were equal (in one sense of the word) then we would be identical, and the world would lose a lot of things we value. That's why I always choose to say 'equality of opportunity' to try and be clear what I'm after.

BTW. Are you still awake? Fancy a phone call?

Does this go the other way, too? Is the metric of gender equality shifting favorably when we see more men entering professions like nursing, which have been more female for a while?

Contrary to expectations of the males of the species, there is only one profession that does require a penis: that of Gigolo.

Ha, yes!

Me and Hubby both work. (Have to almost in this day and age to get by...) But, after much discussion, if anything does happen along certain lines and one of us has to quit to be home with my son, we've decided it will be him.
And isn't that awhole new ballgame!? LOL!
