Whovian

Well, just had a nice day. Three nieflings came over to watch Doctor Who on DVD, and we'd started "Rose" when [livejournal.com profile] hawkeye7 arrived, then we saw "The End of the World", and then [livejournal.com profile] dawnmist and Col arrived when we were watching "The Unquiet Dead" (I think? Or did they come in the middle of The End of the World?). Then I think we had lunch (salad, bread, plus fish from the Fish + Chip shop on the corner), then we saw "Aliens of London" and "World War Three". We'd just been getting into "World War Three" when I realized it was 3pm which was when the nieflings were supposed to be picked up, so a phone call was made and the pickup delayed. And also in the middle of this my friend Adrienne arrived to drop some stuff off, and stayed to watch too. Then Adrienne left, then the neiflings left. And then [livejournal.com profile] hawkeye7 left too. Discussion ensued as to what to do next, between me and [livejournal.com profile] dawnmist and Col. I ended up burning them a CD of "The Christmas Invasion", then we watched "Dalek" (well, Col had started watching Dalek while [livejournal.com profile] dawnmist and I were in the study) and then one episode of Samurai Jack. And time was getting on and it was getting hot (the air conditioner is only meant for one room, so it has limited utility in cooling down a large room at the other end of the house, but it was still probably cooler inside than out) so they also left.

Good day.
Tired. Hot. Shall retreat to cool bedroom, I think.

I had a dip in the pool when I got back.

That sounds like a great day.

Where does the word 'nieflings' come from? I notice you and [livejournal.com profile] mistraltoes use it.

I guessed what it meant! I just wondered if it was from somewhere like Harry Potter, but I just googled and only got three results. :-P

As far as I know it's a real but rarely used word; I got it out of a book of same. It's too often useful not to be more widely known, so I'm promoting it.

I've looking for ages for an English word for uncles/aunts and nephews/nieces to go with siblings, parents, cousins and offspring. I wonder why there isn't one?

And you're doing a good job!

*smiles*

We got there part way through "The End of the World", when they were exchanging gifts.

Had a great day, thank you!
