Fanfic Year In Review
I might as well do this...
Number of stories this year: Hmmm, depends what you mean by "story". This has been the Year of the Ficlets (and the Year of the Challenges). But I'm not going to count the lightening fics, even then.
Drabbles: 10
Ficlets greater than 100 words: 4
Greater than 500 words: 7 (Frayed, Silk and Sandals (The Samurai Remix), Completing the Circuit, Lady Blue, Passing Fair, Words in the Dark, Wind Woman)
Filkish things: 2
Or one could call it the Year of the Sidetracking, because not one of the stories I finished this year was in my list of original ideas I wanted to do: they were all challenges, one way or another. But b7friday got me writing an awful lot of drabbles; I've never written so many drabbles! And then there were various other LJ challenges, whether group ones or spontaneous ones... Maybe it just goes to show that deadlines make one finish things...
My favorite story this year (of my own): I think it's a tie between Silk and Sandals (The Samurai Remix) and Passing Fair. In this year of challenges, those two are the ones I had the most fun with, the most satisfaction with; unusual, a challenge, and I also pulled it off.
My best story this year: Well this would have to be Silk and Sandals (The Samurai Remix) considering it won Best Bath-tub Novel in the Crossover Awards. And considering that it was a Remix story, that's doubly surprising.
On the other hand, the story I entered into the Tomorrow People story competition is hopefully also good, though I can't link to it yet because they still haven't finished judging...
Story most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion: I don't expect the universe to appreciate me. And I don't expect the universe to appreciate drabbles or ficlets either. So, of the remaining ones, I guess it would have to be Lady Blue but it has a rather limited audience anyway, considering it's not only a crossover, but a crossover with supporting characters in it.
Most fun story: If I could count filkish things, I'd say Disobedience, but otherwise, probably Scarier Then The Crow, because it is just so mad, but fitting. You can blame mistraltoes for that, since it was her challenge.
Most sexy story: The only one which is even vaguely sexy is Lady Blue, really.
Story with single sexiest moment: See above.
Story with single sweetest moment: Hmmm. Probably the end of Frayed, now that I think about it.
Most unintentionally *telling* story: I'm not sure. Pass.
"Holy crap, that's *wrong*, even for you" story: Lady Blue; not that it's actually *wrong*, but I would never have written a Ford/Zhaan story in a million years, if I hadn't been challenged to.
Hardest story to write: Well, when the deadlines were looming, all the longer challenge stories were hard! Silk and Sandals, Lady Blue and Passing Fair -- you could say Passing Fair was hardest, because what I wrote was really the prelude to a longer story, and I still don't know what's going to happen in that one.
Of course, I could also say that the hardest story to write was the one I gave up on after realizing it was a Methos-Sue story, but that, of course, is not in the list, because it wasn't finished.
This year's theme and the story that demonstrates it most:
Well, I've already said above that it was the Year of the Challenges, but that's not really a theme. If you look at my b7friday ficlets, the theme is probably Hope, because I keep on making the assumption that the Federation will topple eventually, and I keep on giving characters second chances. Or maybe it's that Hope and Determination will win out -- because that's one of the themes in Silk and Sandals too. And Passing Fair is certainly about second chances.
One that doesn't count under fanfic would have to be this one, which I wrote for mistraltoes. Which I'd forgotten about, but it was fun too.
