The World Lacks Colour

I hate blood tests. My arm hurts. And I need both arms to do computery stuff.

In other news, why is it that computer application themes (such as GTK+ and Firefox themes) come in only three flavours:
- bland
- garish
- black
Can't someone invent a tasteful, interesting theme that isn't black?

I like my fake-wood Firefox theme, and my gray and blue (which I guess might count as "bland") GKrellm theme, but in general I agree with you. (See also: every DeadJournal system style.)

Yes, I'm rather fond of the "Walnut" Firefox theme, but I don't want to use it everywhere. I use it on my laptop, along with a GTK Theme called "CedarBrass", which is highly modified from a GTK Theme called "HandCraftedFromCedar". It seems like wood-look themes are the only exception to the rule, being interesting, tasteful, and readable.

Which is interesting, because there's so many possible color themes that aren't based around wood, at least it seems like there should be, but metal-look ones are often either too bright or too low-contrast for me, and I haven't seen anything else that attempts to imitate real-world hues and isn't "a bucket of melted crayons"-garish.

Also: I agree completely about the themes on computery stuff. When I upgraded Firefox recently, I checked out their new themes and was disgusted; I remain a simple gray, which is at least easy on my eyes.

You can't win with tests. All that can happen is they find something wrong.

I found what I thought were some nice, simple Firefox themes (e.g. a pale turquoise one that reminded me of tropical seas) but it was a bit much when I installed it. I'm just using the boring standard one, but that's OK as it's almost invisible.

I'm trying a new Firefox theme now; Old Factory Silver (Light). It looks all Steampunkish.

Vimperator doesn't play well with it, alas; the tabs go all wonky. I've found a strange combination of commands which seem to reset the tabs to their correct appearance; I hope it doesn't break things.
