That is one of the things I like about your worldbuilding; the theology and metaphysics of the inhabitants are as muddled and messy as that in the real world.

But the muddledness (is that a word? 'Tis now) is deliberate, of course. If you want a conflict of beliefs, the last thing you want is a definitive truth to get rid of the doubt. And since the world is ultimately intended as a rolegaming resource, the best way to get players into the beliefs of their characters is to hide the truth from them. And the best way for me, as GM/designer, to hide the truth from them is to keep it secret from myself:)
