Yes, David Collings did have one of the better parts in it. It was interesting looking at people's expressions -- he seemed to have more range than any other of the supporting cast. Commander Ivanov was just shouting at people, Toose seemed destined to scream and pout, the guy played by Brian Croucher just sneered all the time, but Poole (David Collings) got to go everywhere from sarcasm, concern, amusement and shouting.
