This is all excellent advice. I'd only add one thing: as often as you possibly can, either at home or at your hotel, shower or bathe at least once a day, more if you're tired, because weariness induces sweat and its concurrent grottiness. You don't want to be That Guy you ... sensed ... in the lift. Eau de sour milk/old gym socks is not going to help you make friends.
