Do Be Do Be Do

During this month of August, I have been taking a break from fiction writing, as I have been participating in [community profile] naarmamo and doing art and craft. However, September is a new month.

If I were to write fanfic, what story should I work on?

1. AU Draco Time Travel story

I'm a dead man walking, Draco thought, gazing at the wand in his hand. It was plain and smooth, deceptively simple... and made of elder wood. Dumbledore's wand. No wonder the old wizard had been able to defeat Grindlewald; it hadn't been the wizard after all, but the wand. Draco knew his wizarding tales, knew of the Peverell brothers and the three treasures they had been given by Death.

Death was probably laughing at him right now. He had been such a fool. It hadn't been about the glory at all. The mission had never been intended as a chance to retrieve his family's honour in the eyes of the Dark Lord. It had been one final punishment for his father, a last unrecoverable blow. Because if Draco had failed, the Dark Lord would kill him. And if Draco had succeeded, the Dark Lord would still kill him, in order to be master of the Elder Wand, the unbeatable wand, the Deathstick. The wand he now held in his hand.

2. Untitled Labyrinth story

Her face smoothed to cold stillness. The drops on her cheeks were not diamonds, but ice. She stepped back, pulling the wreath from her hair. As the flowers fell, the colour of her gown turned from white to smoke, from smoke to basalt-grey, until the whole was as black as ink. She raised her arms. The room darkened with the gathering magic.

"Seven and seven and seven," she began, and her voice rang like a bell. With her first word, she flung her arms at Jareth, and a cloud of sparks surrounded him, spinning in a dark wind.
"Seven years bound,
Seven riddles to solve,
Seven kisses to gain.
If she loves thee better than I
If her thoughts are wiser than mine
If she binds the wild neglected
Then night-time shall untangle thee."

3. Rewrite of "By Any Other Name"

Rose hugged Jack's greatcoat to her chest. Salt tears dampened the wool. The dim yellow light of the TARDIS made the blue-grey seem green. Her argument with her mother was still ringing in her ears. Try anything. She had to get back to the Doctor, had to rescue him, and Jack. But what else could she try? The core of the TARDIS wouldn't open. She didn't know how to fly it.

She hugged the coat tighter. Something hard pressed against her arm. What? She lifted up the coat and felt through the pockets, expecting to find Jack's depleted sonic pistol. She found nothing in the outer pockets. She smoothed out the coat, and felt the outline of the object. It was round, not pistol-shaped, and smaller than the pistol had been. Where was it? In the lining? She unfolded the coat, and noticed an inside breast pocket, closed with a button and loop fastening. She undid it, and pulled out something round and flat; cold metal, with a chain dangling from it. It looked like an old-fashioned fob-watch, though the chain was more like a necklace chain, as if the object was a pendant. Maybe it was a large locket, though it felt too heavy for that. The design on the outside was a bit odd; spirals and circles that vaguely reminded her of something, something that wasn't old-fashioned. She turned it over in her hand. There was something stuck to the back; a note, written in a hasty scrawl.

guard with LIFE
keep AWAY from Ruby

4. "You Can't Go Home Again", the next Buffy-and-the-Doctor story

Green grass, blue sky, much paler than the indigo-blue of the deceptively mundane doors she'd just stepped through. How could this TARDIS-thing be a space-ship? She glanced to her right, and froze. There was a corner there. There shouldn't be a corner; inside, there were no corners in that round cathedral of a room. She touched the corner; it felt like ordinary painted wood. Keeping her hand on the surface, she walked all around the outside of the TARDIS, her other hand in front of her to ward off potential invisible obstacles.

As she came around the last corner, the Doctor was already standing in the grass, grinning at her.

"It's smaller on the outside!" Buffy said. "Neat."

5. Master-with-Amnesia hooks up with Jo Grant story

Jo heard it before she saw it. The sound, so familiar, yet so tantalizingly unrecognisable. It wasn't a dying elephant, or a steam engine, or an explosion, but it was like all of these. She knew she should know what it was, but she couldn't quite remember. But it was enough to get her running out the door, running towards the sound, afraid and excited at once.

The outline in blue, fading into existence, was enough to make the last connection. It was the TARDIS!

The door opened, and a white-haired man staggered out, clutching his chest. A cloud of smoke poured out behind him.

"Doctor?" Jo said, reaching out for him. It wasn't the Doctor. Not the Doctor she knew.

6. SSHG Marriage Law story

The laws had been on the books for quite a while. Most of them were even reasonable.

The Marriage Act, Section 2.2

All persons applying for a Marriage License must first have been matched by Geneamorological testing, with a compatibility rating greater than 50%.

Which explained the low rate of divorce in the Wizarding world.

Hogwarts By-Laws, Chapter 49

For the convenience of the students, and to ease compliance with the law, all students will fill out Geneamorological testing forms by the end of the term in which they reach their majority.

That was just a piece of bureaucracy, really.

The Marriage Act, Section 13.1

Couples who have a compatibility rating of 90% or greater shall be deemed High Compatibility.

The Marriage Act, Section 13.5

If a High Compatibility couple includes a female who is of age, but has not yet reached her 18th birthday, the couple must marry before her 18th birthday, or have their wands snapped and be exiled from the Wizarding World.

The Ministry were insane.

Well, you know which one I want... though (despite my not being in that fandom) Draco and the Elder Wand sound intriguing.

Ooh, I vote for 3! :)

p.s. I am working on your help_japan fic, but had a quick question: how much of Bones have you seen? I have a couple of different ideas for that section, but I don't want to spoil you for anything that might not have aired where you live, yet.

I vote for #4!

I'd also like to see more of your SG-1/Doctor universe...

Mostly the one with Samantha Carter and the Doctor! I think "Tempus Fugit"?

I always thought that the TARDIS sounded like a washing machine on its last legs starting on its spin cycle.

"It's smaller on the outside!" Buffy said. "Neat."

As is that line of dialogue. :)

I like the sound of most of those potential stories, but have voted for 4 and 6.

I would vote for 2 and 5 if I could.

I haven't gotten the hang of OpenID anyway. :) But it's not a big deal, just thought I'd throw it in.

I'm voting for 1 and 6!
However can't get on to Dreamwidth at the moment!
