I've been catching up on NCIS, looking at Season 2. I haven't been remarking on the episodes, as they've been average, but fun.

However, this episode, "Call of Silence" impressed me. I think the writers of NCIS must know more about the Marines than they do about computers (Abby, whom I adore, I still have to roll my eyes whenever there's computer stuff, because she always spouts gibberish. Well, gibberish that sounds good.)
Of course, I have no way of knowing whether the Marine stuff was accurate, but it just struck me so much, the honour and tradition that was shown here.
The awesome, awesome characterisation of the guest-star, and how the evidence kept twisting in one direction and another.

And Gibbs was awesomely sneaky.

comments

So, this is the first time the "redhead in the car who picks Gibbs up" is mentioned explicitly. And neither Tony nor Kate know who she is. They just know that Gibbs has a thing for redheads.

The plot for this one, a bit bizzare...
( here be spoilers )

comments

Well, the plot on this one was more interesting than usual; all cloak and dagger.

Ah, poor Ducky! I don't think Ducky is boring, I just think he has a tendency to get sidetracked.

What is it with Gibbs and driving off in a sports car with a redhead (who is presumably his wife)? Or maybe I should say, why is it that his wife always turns up in a sportscar when Gibbs needs to avoid questions?

comments

Hey, this one had a plot that was actually good! There may be hope for the series yet.
Since this is about the third time I've come across the phrase "Sub Rosa" as an episode title, I decided to look it up. And there's a pun in the title! I love titles with double meanings.

I was rather amused by the fact that Abby's relaxation reading is a lurid-looking magazine... entitled "Extreme Computing". (grin)
I like Abby.

comments

Well, I've seen the next two episodes of NCIS... and I'm somewhat dissatisfied. Well, I still like Abby and Ducky (and Gibbs), but the plots... don't make a great deal of sense. No, they aren't complete nonsense, but they feel... wobbly. For things I can verify (such as Australianisms, or computer geek stuff) they have stuff that's right and stuff that's unlikely, and stuff that's wrong. Wobbly plots.
Mind you, The Sentinel had wobbly plots too, so I'm not sure why I'm finding the wobblyness of these plots more irritating.

(sigh)

comments

I've just watched the first two episodes of NCIS. I was expecting to like Ducky, since David McCallum is the reason I decided to watch it. But I was surprised how much I liked Abby. She's cool. I rather like Gibbs, but the rest... don't care, really.

No, I don't like this show as much as Bones. It's shallower than Bones, though I guess no more shallow than your average crime show. I'll keep watching, for now.

comments
