Interesting post, go read it: Bronze Age Memory -- the Bible FTW (if you are interested in the Bronze Age, or the Bible, or volcanoes).

That particular theory about Thera is one that I love, mainly because it makes so much sense. Jo Graham mentions it in two of her Numinous World books, Black Ships and Hand of Isis, and I've been intrigued by the idea ever since.

Went and read it. This is not the first time I have heard this theory, it was held up as a possible reason for the Pillar of fire and smoke in a documentary I watched once about Moses. The tsunami generated by the explosion could also be the start point of the stories of the flood that appear at about the same time all through the middle east.

Thank you for this article, it is very interesting. I have read some studies about certain natural events which are reflected in the Bible and in almost all the ancient legends.
