Gimp Resources

Many years ago, I got myself an account on DeviantArt so that I could make comments. Today (after much renaming and zipping) I uploaded my first "works" to my account. I put "works" in quotes because they aren't works per se; they're Gimp brushes designed for LJ user-icons, fancy borders. I figured more people would find my brushes that way.

I am at http://kerravonsen.deviantart.com/ if any of you want to take a look.

As for putting anything else up there, I'm unsure, as I keep on getting mixed messages about whether DeviantArt is evil or okay. Any advice, folks?

Fairly evil and actively homophobic. I've stuck there because there really is no other decent place to post and find fanart but there's a reason I crosspost everything to Tumblr.

As much as I'd like to make Tumblr my main art hub, it makes a truly appalling gallery, so if people want to see all of my art (especially the stuff from before I got a Tumblr!) they'll have to go back to DA. I wish there was some easy way to crosspost in both directions, Tumblr makes it's really easy by DeviantArt really doesn't, and I do dislike the way it feels like I'm endorsing DA :/

I need to poke at tumblr layouts though, there may be some better way to make the tags more navigable.

I've been thinking about putting my artwork on DA but wasn't sure either about their attitudes. I don't like having to state gender for one thing and I think they enforce that.

I have several frames downloaded. Are you likely to do any textures as well?

I haven't really used any so I bow to those who do. I've seen some lovely effects on others' icons when they've used them as a filter.

Very nice!

Yeah, I'm not sure how to do the other kind either. I've mainly fiddled with effects and filters in the GIMP and got some nice results I can almost never replicate.

Gimp brushes! Will take a look at them later. Gimp's my image manip tool of choice.

Deviant Art were okay, when I first joined several years ago (I'm just a spectator there), but last time I checked in, which was last month, they seem to have been taken over and are now heavily marketing driven. I have serious concerns about the direction in which they're heading but haven't taken the time out to look into what's happening. I do know a lot of people have had issues of the lj boldthrough fiasco kind.
